After being brought up on robbery and attempted rape charges, a defendant was placed in jail on Rikers Island, unable to make bail. Proclaiming his innocence,, to which the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office agreed. The prosecutor then agreed that all charges brought against the defendant would be dropped if he passed the polygraph exam.

Within the following week, the defendant was released from prison and was free to re-enter society. The polygraph exam saved this man from spending a substantial amount of time behind bars for a crime that he did not commit.
